Challenge 20
Challenge 20 is a fixed keel and tiller steered sloop* built in 2006.
Challenge 20 is the first design iteration of a hull made specifically for adaptive sailing designed by Ken Workinger. Challenge was donated in December 2018 by the Great Lakes Boat Building School in Cedarville, Michigan after being introduced to the WMSAIL program by a former army veteran.
Challenge 20 will be making its first ever water debut summer of 2025 to be used as a fully adaptive sailboat after being built and adapted by a team at the Great Lakes Boat Building School as well as by Lead engineer Ken Workinger, OTD student Hadley Moak, and Captain Lee Price. The hope for Challenge 20 is to improve feelings of self efficacy and independence in individuals living with disabilities by showing that through the use of adaptive technology, things that seem impossible are suddenly possible.
