Meet our Executive Board
Captain Lee Price: Lee is the founder and president of West Michigan S.A.I.L. In addition to earning his Master 100-Ton Near Coastal captain’s license, he holds degrees in psychology, sociology, and education leadership. With over 40 years of sailing experience, Lee is a US Sailing-accredited instructor with certifications in: Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Adaptive Sailing. Lee captained an 80-foot, gaff-rigged, square topsail schooner, Jolly II Rover, based in Key West, Florida, and currently skippers WMSAIL’s sailing charters and the Pentwater Water Taxi.
Brenda Hilderbrandt: Brenda is WMSAIL’s vice president and is married to a 20-year U.S Airforce veteran. Brenda’s been a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) for 18 years and currently serves as their Michigan Dunes Chapter treasurer in addition to being a chapter chairman of DAR Service to Veteran and National Defense Chairman. Brenda found WMSAIL through a DAR meeting when Lee came to speak and has since continued her passion for veteran support through serving as WMSAIL’s vice president as well working alongside her DAR chapter to supply food boxes for Christmas to 50 veterans.
Chad Sampson: Chad is a certified basic keelboat instructor through US Sailing and serves as WMSAIL’s secretary. Outside of sailing, Chad has spent most of the last 20 years in children’s education. Chad spent six summers instructing children primarily on 18’ Interlake and Sunfish sailboats and served as a manager for summer sailing programs with a proficiency in various types of boat maintenance and rigging.
Suhey Fisher: U.S. Army combat veteran and founder of Inner North, a wellness initiative focused on trauma-informed mindfulness, auricular acupuncture (NADA protocol), and holistic health practices for veterans and underserved communities as well as currently serving on Michigan’s Governor’s Challenge for Psychotropic Safety. With firsthand experience navigating the invisible wounds of service, Suhey is committed to addressing mental health and suicide prevention through integrative and community-based approaches.
Her work with West Michigan SAIL reflects her mission to make outdoor therapeutic experiences, like sailing, more accessible to veterans struggling with PTSD, MST, and reintegration challenges.
