The WMS Board

  • Captain Lee Price, President

After learning that there are an average of 22 veteran suicides per day nationally, I wanted to do what I could to reduce that number. This inspired me to explore ways to support the veterans of West Michigan and beyond. I started working on the concept of a sailing program for veterans in 2017. Twelve local people met in the first concept meeting at the Pentwater Township Library, and shortly after the notion of a sailing program was born. This later became known as WMS. Because sailing is therapeutic, I believe the veterans in our program will benefit immensely.

  • Tom Calabretta, Vice President

A U. S. Navy Vet and small boat sailor who is now retired, and a stroke survivor. Tom may not be physically able to get the fleet ready, he has kept himself busy doing website development and is happy to serve his fellow vets through WMSAIL.

  • Chad Sampson, Secretary

I spent six summers instructing children, primarily on 18’ Interlake and Sunfish sailboats. I served as Manager for summer sailing programs and am proficient in various types of boat maintenance and rigging. Outside of sailing I have spent much of the last 20 years in child education roles.

Certified Basic Keelboat Instructor through US Sailing .

  • Patrick Michael

Recently retired from 27 years of public service, including active duty with the US Coast Guard. His interests include sailing, flying, and amateur astronomy. He is excited to be part WM SAIL to help Veterans embrace the healing powers of wind and water.

  • Megan Marsteller

Megan is a United States Marine Corps Veteran who is looking forward to developing WMS projects that make positive impacts on Veterans and communities across Western Michigan. During her time as a non-commissioned officer, Megan was taught to lead by example and work as a team to overcome any challenges that she or her Marines may face. That belief, along with the WMS mission, is what drives her confidence in the S.A.I.L. program; as learning to sail could provide a valuable support system and regained sense of community for those that served. Feel free to ask her about the 1976 Drascombe Dabber that she is rebuilding!
